Saturday, 1 September
Breakfast
- Ted's Mother's Buttermilk Waffles - they turned out a little weird. Ted blames this on me adulterating the recipe with the impure "White Whole Wheat" flour instead of traditional Red Whole Wheat flour. I'm skeptical this was the problem.
Supper
- Carrots and Peas with a Roasted Chile-Spice Blend from 660 Curries
- Cumin-Spiced Potatoes and Tomatoes from 660 Curries
- Naan - this is my favorite Naan recipe though I've never seen black onion seeds in King Soopers or Vitamin Cottage so I leave those out.
- Favorite Fudge Birthday Cake
- Toasted Coconut Ice Cream from Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones

Breakfast
- Scrambled tofu with cheese - I tripled this recipe and for the herbs used fresh parsley and basil. For the cheese, I used leftovers we had in the fridge which ended up being about 1/4 cup Gruyère, 1/4 cup goat cheese, and 1/2 cup cheddar cheese.

- Grilled cheese sandwiches (this was made with the bread mixture Yanthor brought and cheddar cheese)
- Warm or Cold Tomato and White Bean Soup - The herbs I used were fresh basil, parsley, and oregano. I only used 1 can of white beans and pureed everything together.

- Breakfast was a mix of cereals with fruit options. I made up my cereal using a recipe I learned from Jaeger's mother that she calls Muesli

Friday, 31 August
7 Wonders
In the afternoon, Jaeger, Kiesa, Nemo, and Yanthor played 7 Wonders. This was Nemo's first time playing the game, and he came away with a decisive victory based on his civilization's military strength.
Empire Builder
After supper, Jaeger talked Yanthor into playing Empire Builder. Jaeger got off to a bad start by over-building his track network trying to deliver coffee from Veracruz to Billings, and ended up borrowing money from the bank at usurious rates. He recovered but this probably set him back. Yanthor upgraded his train early and won with $250 million in less than two hours of play.
Saturday, 1 September
Take off!
Calvin, Jaeger, Kiesa, and Nemo played Take Off!, an air-travel/geography game Kiesa found at a thrift shop. This is our attempt at indoctrinating Calvin in the ways of board games. Kiesa won. Jaeger got stuck in Bratislava and came in last.
Lost Cities
While Yanthor and Kiesa watched Thor, Jaeger and Nemo played Lost Cities. Although it was his first time playing the game, and he performed poorly in the first round, Nemo won with a modest victory after three rounds.
Empire Builder
Jaeger and Nemo continued with a two-player game of Empire Builder. Jaeger learned the lesson from the previous night's game and avoided overbuilding his route network early in the game, and achieved a narrow victory over Nemo sometime after 01:00 the next morning.
Sunday, 2 September
Agricola
A babysitter came over to watch and amuse Calvin at noon, freeing the grown-ups to play Agricola. Jaeger complained that plowing fields is less available than the two-player game. Yanthor thought Nemo had a strong, diversified position going into the end of the game, but Yanthor himself won on the strength of his five-person family and five-room stone house (with 34 points), followed by Jaeger (with 33 points), Nemo (with 27 points), and Kiesa (with 22 points).
Settlers of Catan
The Festors segued into a game of classic Settlers of Catan. Ore was rare at first, and contributed to the second half of the game turning into a slog towards ten victory points. Nemo and Kiesa traded longest road, and Kiesa missed some opportunities to build an optimal longest road. Jaeger eked out a narrow victory by monopolizing wheat, upgrading a city, and buying a development card (with the sheep he drew on the 12 he rolled) which turned out to be a victory point.
Lost Cities
After supper, while waiting for Yanthor to finish an unspecified video-production project, Jaeger and Nemo played Lost Cities. Jaeger scored a decisive victory in the third round.
Puerto Rico
Jaeger, Nemo, and Yanthor considered playing Puerto Rico but decided they were not quite awake enough to play a game they didn't really remember how to play.
Carcassonne
Jaeger, Nemo, and Yanthor instead played Carcassonne. Yanthor tried an all-farm strategy but did not end up with the cities necessary to challenge Jaeger's decisive city-led victory.
Labor Day
7 Wonders
After breakfast, the Eastern Contingent had a brief interval before their scheduled departure at noon, MDT. Nemo and Yanthor tied with 52 points. Yanthor cleaned up on military strength and did well with his other areas.
7 Wonders (reprise)
The Festors had half an hour before departure and decided to play another game of 7 Wonders. This was a high-scoring game, with scores ranging from 50 to 58. Nemo won, mostly on the strength of his guilds, on which he scored 23 points.
Music
Jaeger played the BT album These Hopeful Machines at the Megafest. The album was first released in 2010 but Jaeger didn't get around to buying it this summer. He associates the album with his recent trip to India because he bought the album shortly before departing, and wrote most of the changelogs documenting the trip while listening to the album.
